Reading: 1st hour students have a vocabulary web to complete for homework.  2nd and 3rd hours have not homework.
There will be no other homework this week.  Since this is the first week of the new marking period, there are also no late assignments that need to be completed.

Students are continuing their study of the civil rights movement and the democratic values of equality and justice.  This week we are learning about Ruby Bridges, a young girl who helped to integrate schools in New Orleans in 1960.

Tomorrow is "Dress Like Your Favorite Character Day".  Cookie Wars begin Thursday, 8th hour.

Please make a note- the Monday that we come back from spring break is a delayed start-Rambler Day.

Writing: Students practiced writing persuasive essays.  The topic for their essay was "What is the Best Season of the Year?"  Essays were done in class and handed in.  There is no homework this weekend.

Reading Month reminders:  
    1.  Next Tuesday is the "Bake For Books" sale.  The staff will be baking their favorite cookies and students will be able to buy cookies for $.25.  All proceeds will be donated to the McBain Community Library.
     2.  Wednesday's dress up day is "Dress Like Your Favorite Fictional Character".
     3.  The "Cookie Wars" start on Thursday.  Students who wish to participate in the bake-off will need to bring their cookies to school on Thursday.

Reading: Students worked in their vocabulary journals.  Have Selection Test #139 for homework.
English: Students continued study of prepositional phrases.  English worksheet #98 for homework.

Scholastic Book Fair will be held March 22-March 29th.  Students will be browsing at the fair this week and will be able to purchase books next week.  Adults are also welcome to  visit the fair which is being held in the library.

Spelling HW- Due Thursday.
Reading: Read the historical essay, "The Shut Out" in class.  Students will have a quiz on the concept questions tomorrow.  These questions are located in the margins of each page.
English: Moved ahead with prepositions today.  Investigated prepositional phrases used as adverbs.

Students celebrated "Green Day" with green fortune cookies and the writing of limericks.
No homework for the weekend.

Reading: Students are finishing up their analysis questions.  They are due tomorrow.  There is also a Selection Test over the two narratives that is due tomorrow.

Class discussion about main ideas/details.  Compared and contrasted Abraham Lincoln and Jackie Robinson and the contributions they made to equality.

Reading: Students continued their critical analysis questions about historical accounts.  Today we learned more about Jackie Robinson.  The analysis questions will be due on Friday.  Students will have class time today and tomorrow to complete the assignment.

English: Studied the use of prepositional phrases as adjectives.

Sorry for the lateness of this update. Due to yesterday's power outage, we have been without internet service for much of today.

Reading: Students read a historical account about Abraham Lincoln, pgs. 314-324.  They began working on the critical thinking questions at the end of the selection.  These questions are not homework.  We will continue working on them in class tomorrow.  Students do have a vocabulary worksheet for homework that is due tomorrow.

English:  No homework assignment this evening.

Writing: Delayed start today.  Students in 3rd hour worked on a writing assignment using prepositional phrases, "From Here To There".

Reading Month Update- This Wednesday is Be a "Jean"ious Day.  Students should wear jeans and a shirt with words on it.  This week's Reading Cafe will be held after school (3:00 - 4:00) on Friday.

Students worked on a cereal commercial today in class.  They will be presenting their 30 second commercial tomorrow in class.  The emphasis is on clearly stated opinions, logical reasoning, and well chosen examples.
