Monday-Thursday, February 27- March 1, 2012

Spelling: Homework (adjectives and adverbs) is due Thursday.  Quiz over these words is Thursday at the beginning of the hour.

Reading/writing: Students will be reading about the sinking of the Titanic.  They will be summarizing the setting, events, and mood of narrative in a comic strip.  Comic strip is due on Thursday. 

Hope to see everyone at Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday.
Remember that there is no school on Friday, March 2nd.

                Titanic Comic Strip Project
                          Final project is due: March 1st
   Your task is to create a comic strip about the sinking of the Titanic. The strip must have all of the main events. Your illustrations should be worthy of newspaper publication. Your illustrations should show great creativity. Turn on your brain and let the creative juices flow.
Brainstorm the storyline.  Include setting, characters, and main plot events.





Brainstorm elements of a comic strip.

You must show me a rough draft before you can get the paper for the final copy.

Make sure you have planned out everything that will be on your final comic strip.

Make sure you have checked for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.

Reading:Students read pgs. 554-561 in class.  We are continuing with our study of the non-fiction genre.  There is a Selection Test over these stories that is due tomorrow.  Students need to complete the multiple choice questions.  The essay questions were not assigned.

Brainstorming:
Complete the sensory information sheet.  Be very specific about the details of your favorite place.
   Adjectives:
Using the list of adjectives in your writing folder, brainstorm some special adjectives that describe your favorite place.

Rough Draft
Write a rough draft of your poem. Edit, revise, and proofread the rough draft before moving on to the final copy.  These editing changes should be shown on the rough draft.

   Spelling: Homework due tomorrow.
   Writing: Cause/effect writing is due tomorrow.  Today students began working on a rhyming poem about a place that is special to them. Poem will be due on Tuesday.
   Reading: No assignment.

There will be an English test next Wednesday that will cover adjectives and adverbs.

English: Students began study of comparative adverbs.
Reading: Selection Test over the poems that we studied last Friday.  Due tomorrow.
Writing: Cause/effect writing is due on Thursday.  Students began a poetry assignment.  They are writing rhyming poems about their favorite places.  The emphasis is on choosing perfect adjectives.

Sorry that there have not been any blogs this week.  I have been gone since last Friday afternoon.

Reading/English/Writing: Students worked on their Phantom Tollbooth  project the first half of the week.  This project involves comprehension of plot and setting, the use of adjectives, and writing descriptive phrases.  The final copy of the project is due Monday.

English: Students began studying adverbs yesterday.
Reading: Students began the study of narrative and lyric poetry today.

Remember that Monday is a delayed start.

I was not in my classroom yesterday.  Sorry that there was not a post.

Reading: Students had an Open Book test for last night's homework.  Today students finished reading Act II of Phantom Tollbooth.  Comprehension and analysis questions were assigned.

English:  Students had an adjective worksheet for last night's homework.  Today students continued work on comparative adjectives.

Spelling: homework is due tomorror.
