No spelling homework this week.
RESEARCH REPORT IS DUE ON THURSDAY!!

Reading: Students have begun the last genre study for this school year- Adventure.  They started to read the novel  Courage At Indian Deep.  This book will be read in class and there will be a final activity that students will complete. 
    Homework: Read "Zlateh the Goat" and complete the Open Book Test, #s 1-11.

There is no new homework assigned for tonight.

Students discussed how to write the bibliography page for their research essay.  We are not following a strict APA format, but instead a modified format designed to head them in the right direction for future research writing.

Today's class time was devoted to continuing the writing process.  Students will also  work on this project tomorrow in class.  The project will be due Thursday, May 31st.  There will be no class time provided next week as we will be moving on to our final genre unit of study.

Students moved on to the next step of the research writing process. We discussed how to organize the facts and then how to put the facts into our own words.  Lastly, we worked on writing the facts in paragraphs.  Students will continue to work on this in class for the rest of the week.

Reading/writing homework: Two worksheets about research writing.  Both sheets are due tomorrow.

Mystery novel book reports were collected from those students who had completed them.

Students continued their research for the research paper.

Phew- the book report deadline is now Monday!!!

Reading/Writing/English: Students have begun work on a research paper.  They are researching real life mysteries: the Loch Ness Monster,  Amelia Earhart, Big Foot, UFOs, the Bermuda Triangle, or the Abominable Snowman.  Students have chosen their topics and we have started the research phase.  All of the work, up to the final draft, will be done in class.  There are research materials in the classroom.  Students may do research at home, but it is not required.

There is no homework tonight.

Writing: Students began writing a three-paragraph essay on deductive and inductive reasoning.  It is due tomorrow.
                A. Paragraph one- explain the premise of the game, "Clue".
                B.  Define "inductive reasoning" and explain how you used it to play "Clue".
                C.  Define "deductive reasoning" and explain how you used it to play "Clue".

Reading: Students worked in groups to identify "clue" words that they use to solve word problems in math class.  Large group discussion to compare solving word problems to solving mysteries.  Students have a problem solving packet for homework.  It is due tomorrow.

No spelling homework this week.

Students competed against each other with games of "Clue".  They will finish their competition tomorrow.

Spelling homework is due tomorrow at the beginning of the hour.
Mystery story is due Friday at the beginning of the hour.  Students will need to turn in their brainstorming shee with the final draft of the story.  Final draft should be in ink or typed.
Mystery book report and the accompanying note taking sheets are due May 18th.

Reading: Today was the last class period for silent reading of the book report book.  After today, all work on this project is homework.  Final draft and the accompanying worksheets are due on May 18th.

Writing: Today was the last day of class time to work on the mystery story.  Final draft is due this Friday, May 11th.

Reading: Continued to read mystery novel and fill in notes for each element.  Final copy of book report is due May 18th.  Students worked on an "art mystery" on the Scholastic website.

Writing: Continued to work on the rough draft of mystery story.  Final draft is due May 11th.
